Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

We return to Revelation 14 and the beauty of our Savior, God the Son, Jesus Christ. We have seen His attractiveness in His granting of personal salvation and in His offering of that salvation to everyone. This chapter also reveals His beauty in His demonstration of absolute holiness. His righteous justice against settled, implacable evil reveals that which is higher and better. His unwavering, unswerving devotion to all that is good and right is different from our variableness. Initially, we might be daunted by His holy perfection. However, if we ponder even a bit, we will recognize that He is consistent and that He must be consistent. His unchanging holiness is more than a standard which is unattainable to us – it is simply an integral part of His nature. When we realize this truth, Psalm 96:9 becomes our personal experience: “O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before Him, all the earth.” When Jesus readies His “sharp sickle” of judgment (Revelation 14:14) and treads “the great winepress of the wrath of God” (Revelation 14:19), He remains attractive; for His ultimate goal is to eradicate all unholiness and make “whosoever believeth in Him” (John 3:16) holy for all eternity.
