Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) assures all believers that “they shall reign for ever and ever” (22:5d). Last week, we considered several compelling reasons from the book of Revelation to believe this promise. Let us now draw a specific application. In Romans 8:17, we are called “heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.” The highest privilege of being a joint-heir with Jesus is being part of His work. The mission statement of Jesus is humbling: “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). We cannot die on the Cross to save others, of course. However, we can “minister” to others in the name of Jesus: “Whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be the servant of all” (Mark 10:44). Our eternal reign with Jesus in heaven will be one of service: “There shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it [the heavenly city]; and His servants shall serve Him” (Revelation 22:3). Given all of these truths, our focus now should be a life of serving our Savior God by serving others. Let us view this life as the beginning of an eternal life of service.
