Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) reveals that there is rejoicing in heaven because of God’s holiness: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, [Who] was, and is, and is to come” (4:8). This joy is not misplaced, for the holiness of our Lord assures us that He is totally trustworthy. He will never do wrong by us – never! Obviously, we are not holy. Thus, we sometimes do wrong to others. Why do we hurt people that we love, usually unintentionally but perhaps occasionally on purpose? The key reason is that our love – our very real love – is not protected by perfect holiness. However, God’s very real love is perfectly joined to His holiness; thus, His love is always directed to helping us, to moving us in the appropriate direction. God’s way may be difficult for us to understand at times, but it is never wrong and cannot be wrong. We can trust Jesus, for He is wholly holy.
