Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we saw Saturday from II Peter 1:19, Jesus shines His light into that darkest of places, the human heart. For Christians, this truth means that we should increasingly become people of light. II Samuel 23:3-4 has its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ. However, since we are to become more like Jesus, we too should “be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as a tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining [sunshine] after rain” (verse 4). This does not mean that each Christian must be a cheery, breezy “morning” person. Yet, our lives should direct any observant person to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. At the very least, we should not be the crabgrass in the lawn of life or, if you prefer, the wormy crabapple in the pie of perseity. Let us start each morning with the Light; then, let us be “the light of the morning.”
