Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (21:1) provides considerable encouragement to God’s people. After the uncomfortable words of righteous justice in Revelation 14:1-11, we find this exhortation in verse 12: “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” “Patience” is often translated “perseverance” and indicates that each Christian is called to continuance in “the faith of Jesus.” The hardships of life, intensified during the Tribulation, require a settled and determined response from all believers. We must decide to “keep the commandments of God” in this wicked world of woe. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments, and His commandments are not grievous [burdensome],” as we find in I John 5:3. Indeed, everything that our Savior God commands of us is inherently good and thus good for us and for those with whom we interact. We will never regret doing the right thing.
