Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Because Jesus is eternal, He has always existed in the past, as we saw Saturday from Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-3. Colossians 1:16 speaks to the same subject: “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” We should note that there are things that are “invisible,” things that are incorporeal or non-material. Many question, for example, the existence of spirit beings such as angels and, sadly, fallen angels (demons). In fact, one of the strongest philosophical arguments for the existence of God is the transcendental argument (not to be confused with transcendentalism). We know that there are non-physical realities in the universe. For example, numbers exist; no one would deny their reality. However, numbers do not appear in the natural world; there is no place where 1 walks around or 2 flies or 3 swims. Numbers are conceptual, but they are just as real as a rock or a robin. It is logical, then, to attribute the existence of non-material items to something other than material. The Bible reveals that that something is Someone – Jesus Christ. Things that transcend the physical direct us to our Savior, Who is truly the Transcendent One.
