Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The presence and personality of Jesus (Revelation 14:1) are met with praise: “And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: and they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders; and no man could learn that song, but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth” (verses 2-3). The “voice from heaven” could refer to the Father’s voice; for He spoke from heaven three times during the Son’s ministry on earth (Matthew 3:17; 17:5; John 12:28), and His voice is likened to “many waters” and thunder in Psalm 29:3. It could also reference the praise of the redeemed in heaven, especially if this “voice from heaven” is the same as “the voice of harpers harping with their harps,” for Revelation 15:2 records that the 144,000 sealed Jewish evangelists are given “the harps of God.” Recently in a Bible study on Wednesday evening, I pointed out that our physical, bodily resurrection is the completion of our salvation; without a body in eternity, we would have no real fellowship, no means of recognition, and no form of communication. The Bible is clear: we will communicate in heaven, and a major part of that communication is praise. What is important then should be important to us now.
