Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) reveals the necessary justice that He will dispense at the end: “And He [Who] sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth: and the earth was reaped” (Revelation 14:16). We take no joy in this judgment; Jesus does not, either. “’As I live,’ saith the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live’” (Ezekiel 33:11a). However, our Savior must do what is right, for “He cannot deny Himself” (II Timothy 2:13b). Remember, those who are being judged have chosen to rebel against Jesus despite all of His extraordinary efforts to reach out to them and draw them to Himself. “For this they willingly [willfully] are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old” (II Peter 3:5a); they have exercised the will to ignore the obvious truth. Thus, “they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20b). When this judgment comes at the end, it will be swift and severe. No one, though, needs to go through that terrible time, for God’s salvation is immediately available right now. May each of us be certain today of this eternal salvation through faith in God the Son, Jesus Christ.
