Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus is wholly holy (Revelation 3:7). This core characteristic of Christ guarantees that He will always reject the wrong way and will even pursue the right. Sadly, many will spurn the kind salvation that He offers, and the necessary result will be divine justice. Jesus’ voice is described “as the sound of many [rushing] waters” (Revelation 1:15). Think of a thundering waterfall: who can be heard above it? Who can argue with God the Son, the Holy Savior? Moreover, Revelation 1:16 says, “Out of His mouth went a two edged sword.” This is a fulfillment of the Messianic prediction of Isaiah 49:2: “He hath made My mouth like a sharp sword,” clearly a statement of impending righteous judgment. The gracious offer of salvation can be cast aside, and the gracious warning inherent in this passage can be met with scoffing. How dismal! How truly terrible! May we gratefully acknowledge that “[God] hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son” (Hebrews 1:2), and may we be eternally grateful that we have heard His voice of joyful salvation rather than His voice of the judging sword.
