Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Our Savior is eternal. We studied this subject last year and return to it now. Revelation 1:8 records these words of Jesus: “’I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending,’ saith the Lord, ‘[Who] is, and [Who] was, and [Who] is to come, the Almighty.’” Comparing Scripture to Scripture, we find God the Father described in 1:4 as “Him [Who] is, and [Who] was, and [Who] is to come.” Thus, verse 8 is an unequivocal statement of the full divinity of Jesus Christ: He is God the Son, always has been, and forever will be. “Alpha and Omega” are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet (Greek being the original language of the New Testament); since Jesus is revealed as “the Word” in John 1:1, this symbolic use of “the Beginning and the Ending” of all that can be written also directs us to the fullness of the deity of our Savior. All that we need to know about God has been clearly presented to us in the words and works of Jesus Christ.
