Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) devotes much attention to the eternal future. Revelation 22:5d, for example, assures believers that “they shall reign for ever and ever.” One reason that we can have confidence in this gracious promise is the eternal existence of God Himself. Revelation 4:9-11 pictures God the Father on His eternal throne (He “liveth for ever and ever” – verse 9b) as believers “worship Him [“Who] liveth for ever and ever” (verse 10b). Specifically, their worship focuses on the fact of Creation: “Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created” (verse 11b-c). Of course, God the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1-2) and God the Son (John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16) were equally involved in creating “all things.” I often reference the scientific fact of irreducible complexity, which correctly teaches that an organism must be complete to be able to survive. The information that is required for the organism to live (DNA) must also be complete. Both the structure and the information that builds and rebuilds the structure must be complete simultaneously. It is not even a question as to whether the organism could live long enough to reproduce; it cannot exist at all unless created with its complete structure and its complete DNA. The existence of life itself, then, is a proof of the eternal existence of our Savior God and is a compelling reason to believe His promises regarding the future.
