Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

We have been studying Hebrews 6:10-20 and have found that Jesus gives His followers hope. As I said on Saturday, if we are ever discouraged, all we have to do is look up the word hope in a concordance and start reading some of the verses that include this blessed word. One such verse is Romans 15:4: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” Like Hebrews 6:17-18, this is part of the Word of God that directs us back to that Word as a source of hope. Like the character of God, His Word is certain, can be trusted, and thus fills us with hope. The key thought of this verse is overwhelming: all of these events and teachings of the Bible have been written down for people just like us, for our “learning,” “patience,” “comfort,” and “hope.” One reason for the existence of the Bible, then, is to provide us with hope – Biblical hope, certainty in Christ Jesus.
