Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Before we move on to the next chapter in “the Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1), let us return briefly to Revelation 12:17: “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” The entire chapter 12 affirms that Jesus is mighty to save, that “the blood of the Lamb” (verse 11) provides “salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God” (verse 10). We are saved eternally from the slavery of sin and Satan and the surety of “the second death” (Revelation 20:14b) in hell. If this were the extent of Jesus’ might to save, no one could complain or even quibble. Deliverance from the worst of the worst is salvation indeed. Yet, we are saved not only from but also to – to membership in the family of God and to changed lives. The believing “remnant” of Israel, imperiled by the impassioned and imperious implacability of the impious and impure impostor, are characterized by living godly in a most ungodly age. May we “rejoice” (verse 12) that Jesus is mighty to save us and others from the worst of the worst to the best of the best.
