Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 19:10 records John’s interaction with an angel: “And I [John] fell at his [the angel’s] feet to worship him. And he said unto me, ‘See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.’” Angels are real but are not to be venerated. Worship of angels is one of the many heresies of the New Age movement. Such activity is dishonoring to God and is specifically forbidden in Scripture: “Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary [fake] humility and worshipping of angels” (Colossians 2:18a). Two thoughts come to mind. First, since so many people do believe in the existence of angels, it is not surprising that Satan would endeavor to pervert this belief into something that deflects attention away from the Savior. Second, the presence of fallen angels (demons) is also real, and their evil actions will intensify during the Tribulation. Satan will try to confuse people so that they cannot easily distinguish between the holy and the unholy: “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (II Corinthians 11:14). Satan is a deceiver; the wise person is ever alert to his deceptions.
