Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Since Jesus listens to us (Revelation 8:1-4; Psalm 17:6; 31:2; 71:2; 86:1; 102:2), we should think about what to say to Him. We are not going to impress Him with our intellectual prowess or expansive vocabulary. Thus, it is wise to keep things simple. One such unpretentious statement is “Jesus, forgive me.” We need to have our sins forgiven in order to enter into eternal life with Jesus in heaven. He draws us to Himself (John 6:44), but He will not coerce us into this salvation. We must respond to His kind offer of life everlasting by asking for His forgiveness – His willing forgiveness. Romans 10:9-10 says, “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Let us be certain that we are ready for eternity. “Jesus, forgive me” – this unadorned utterance will never go unanswered, for Jesus is listening.
