Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we saw yesterday from II Peter 3:8-9, Jesus is above time and outside time, yet He intervenes in our time. Because of our limited time here on earth, we might think that He is “slack” (verse 9). Is Jesus uncaring and slow? Not at all! He created the universe (including space, energy, matter, and time) in six days, and in six hours on the Cross He provided redemption – full and free forgiveness forever. Galatians 4:4-5a states, “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law.” Thus, even though time has no hold on Jesus, He is always on time. I think of the repentant thief on the cross, who asked to be remembered some day in the future (Luke 23:39-43). Jesus was there at just the time this man most needed Him, and, moreover, Jesus gave him even more: “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” No, Jesus is not distracted nor dilatory – just thorough in doing His wondrous works.
