Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 12:10 speaks of “the power of His Christ.” It is instructive to contrast the power of Jesus Christ with that of His opponents. The power of Satan is destructive, manipulative, and controlling. We can think of our nation’s present political predicament. There was a time when every leader was well-versed in the Bible, and many of them gave evidence of being genuine Christians (the great exception, of course, being elitist Southern Democrats who forced other Southerners to fight to enforce the ultimate control of others – slavery). The current regime desires to control all aspects of life, including the bizarre attempt to ban gas stoves! Far worse, of course, is their use of so-called lawfare to destroy political dissent of freedom-loving Americans, their desire to end our health freedom by placing us under the auspices of the Marxist-dominated World Health Organization, and their collusion with enormous multinational technological firms to suppress free speech. May God be merciful to this nation. Jesus, conversely, employs His power – His omnipotence – to set us free for eternity. His use of power is service and is always for the benefit of others. Jesus said in John 8:32 that “the truth [not the lies of Satan and men] shall make you free.” He added in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” A necessary application of this teaching is found in Galatians 5:13: “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” Let us not be like Satan and the world, striving to control others. Rather, let us be like Jesus, and “by love serve one another.”
