Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Another use of “Amen” is found in Revelation 19:4: “And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts [angels] fell down and worshipped God [Who] sat on the throne, saying, ‘Amen; Alleluia.’” This “Amen” is in direct response to the destruction of Babylon, a literal place during the Tribulation which symbolizes rebellion against Jesus Christ (see verses 1-3). As we have previously studied, its enormous economic, political, and religious power is short-lived; and its destruction is absolute and everlasting. There is no glee in this “Amen.” Instead, it is an intelligent and insightful word of praise based upon the divine necessity of dealing with aggressive and antagonistic sin. Let us remember that God has said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay” (Romans 12:19b). Our part in His ultimate justice is a sincere “Amen.”
