Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we considered yesterday, Jesus chose to become poor. Moreover, He became poor so that He could choose to make us rich. II Corinthians 8:9 states, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.” There is no exaggeration in this statement. For example, through faith in Jesus Christ, we become “heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). This teaching is consistent with the giving character of God, but it is still remarkable. To be an heir of God is beyond our expectations; to be a joint-heir with God the Son is staggering, for it means that we will share in every good thing that belongs to Jesus – and everything belongs to Him! He became poor to make us rich indeed as members of the family of God.
