Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The good governance of Jesus includes the Tribulation period: “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” (Revelation 17:14). In so doing, He fulfills prophecy (including Isaiah 9:6-7), is the ultimate Governor over all governments today (Romans 13:1-7), and governs over the lives of all people, including those who bare no regard for Him (Psalm 73). Moreover, this governance of our good God informs His commandments. For example, Romans 12:18 says, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” Keeping a command of God is always the right thing to do (and there are benefits that accrue to us, as well). When we endeavor to live at peace with others, we are acknowledging that they are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27). We are also acknowledging that they are under the governance of God. If they are unbelievers, they may repent, or they may not; but they remain accountable to God, as Romans 12:19 elucidates: “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.’” We must not try to put ourselves in the place of God; for surely we will utterly fail, and we will be engaging in presumptuous sin against our precious Savior.
