Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Our Savior kindly commands us to pray for good things (Matthew 7:7-11), for “the prayers of all saints” are “before the throne” of God (Revelation 8:3-4). One of these good things is deliverance from temptation (Matthew 26:41). Another is wisdom. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him.” Wisdom is the application of knowledge in order to make good, godly decisions. It is needed in all areas of life, including the discerning of God’s will. As we have previously studied from I John 5:14-15, we are to pray “according to His will.” In addition to the points I made then (that we cannot pray for things that are clearly wrong or harmful and that the more we pray, the more we learn Who Jesus is), we also have this specific promise of God regarding the granting of wisdom. Without reproach (the meaning of “upbraideth not”), God will provide the insights that we all need to become more like our Savior, Jesus Christ.
