Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus is personal, possessing a most attractive personality (Matthew 9:36-38). As such, He always demonstrates a personal touch. In Matthew 4:18-20, Jesus calls brothers Andrew and Peter to become His disciples. They were successful commercial fishermen. Thus, Jesus spoke to them in personal terms that they could quickly and completely comprehend: “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (verse 19). By connecting with a dominant aspect of the lives of these brothers, Jesus demonstrated His personal awareness of them as individuals and revealed His respect for their challenging vocation. Similarly, Jesus knows each one of us personally and communicates to us in the way that will best reach us and bless us. He is the God of the personal touch.
