Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 16:17 introduces the seventh vial or bowl judgment at the end of the Tribulation: “And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, ‘It is done.’” Every attribute of our Savior God is flawless. Indeed, Bible scholars often refer to His characteristics as “perfections” in order to distinguish His attributes from our decidedly less-than-perfect ones. I have frequently said that God is blessedly thorough: He always completes what He begins (and He is ever doing more than we know). He categorized the daily work of Creation as “good” (Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 16, 21, 25); when it was fully accomplished, He called it “very good” (verse 31). On the Cross, Jesus Christ, God the Son, said, “It is finished” (John 19:30) and provided the unfailing and unchanging basis for our eternal salvation. At the end of the Tribulation, God will continue to complete His work – here, the necessary work of justice. What He says will always be “done.”
