Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The Antichrist and his evil underlings are bellicose and belligerent: “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful. And he saith unto me, ‘The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire’” (Revelation 17:14-16). We will return to verse 14 and its implications later. Today, we will consider briefly the civil war that unfolds at the end of the Tribulation. The Satanic kingdom will be divided against itself. This is part of God’s sovereign judgment upon this evil empire, of course (see verse 17). It also points to a seething animosity within the Antichrist’s alliance. Haters hate, and they will quickly come to hate each other. When anything (like a political philosophy) or anyone (like a popular politician) is in ascendancy, many who are easily impressed want to be part of the perceived winning side. However, when reality intrudes on their fantasies, these people will turn on each other. Haters cannot love; they cannot even get along for long. They will reap what they have sown (Galatians 6:7). How much better it is to side with Jesus, Who is “Faithful and True” (Revelation 19:11)!
