Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 21:2 provides a glimpse of eternity for the believer in Jesus Christ: “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” This “holy city” is many things, as the rest of the chapter describes. One aspect that cannot be overlooked is that it is “prepared” by God for His people. The same Greek word is used in the promise of Jesus, God the Son, in John 14:2-3: “In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” Even if no description of “the holy city” were given to us, this statement of God’s preparation of it for us would be all that we needed to know. His thoughtfulness, His careful attention to detail, His solicitude in providing for our needs, His abundance in giving us His best for all eternity – all of these and more are included in that word “prepared.” May we love Him deeply as we contemplate His genuine affection for us, an affection that will be demonstrated in each detail forever.
