Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The four and twenty elders” (Revelation 11:16) who worship in heaven are specific in their praise: “We give thanks, O Lord God Almighty, [Who] art, and wast, and art to come; because Thou hast taken to Thee Thy great power, and hast reigned. And the nations were angry, and Thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that Thou shouldest give reward unto Thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear Thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.” (verses 17-18). This statement of worship is appropriate for all Christians today. First, since God’s power is unchanging, we are also to proclaim that the “Almighty” has “great power.” He possesses both absolute authority and ability. Second, God’s plan will be unveiled (as predicted in Revelation 10:7 and further detailed in Revelation 20) and should be celebrated. Third, “reward” awaits the faithful followers of Jesus Christ, “small and great.” Fourth, the justice of God is fair, for He will “destroy them which destroy the earth” – what is often called poetic justice. God’s majesty covers all circumstances, both good and evil. Thus, He is always worthy of our worship.
