Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 21:7 promises, “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.” As we studied yesterday from I John 4:4-5, it is an incontrovertible fact that we are eternal overcomers through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The result of this faith is an everlasting relationship: “I will be his God, and he shall be My son.” Because of this familial relationship, each believer “shall inherit all things.” This statement is not hyperbolic. Romans 8:16-17a says, “The Spirit [Himself] beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.” a joint-heir receives an equal portion of the inheritance; each believer is thus promised “all things.” In the 1871 Chicago fire, the preacher D. L. Moody’s home burned down. A friend lamented that Moody had “lost everything.” The evangelist responded, “No, I have a good deal more left.” His friend was surprised and said, “I didn’t know you were rich.” Moody opened to Revelation 21:7 and stated, “I have a good deal more left than I lost.” His heavenly perspective is a fine example of the transformation that faith in Jesus brings to each Christian. “All things” good await us in eternity.
