Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
In Mark 13:32, Jesus states the following regarding His return to end the Tribulation: “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” We know that “the angels” are not omniscient. For example, “the Gospel” and the plan of salvation are “things the angels desire to look into” (I Peter 1:12). As we studied yesterday, Jesus, fully God and thus omniscient, willingly chose not to exercise all of His divine prerogatives when He became fully human (Philippians 2:5-11). Now, in His rightful place in heaven, Jesus no longer veils His full glory (John 17:5). Since Jesus did not mention God the Holy Spirit in verse 32, some might wonder if the Spirit knew “that day and that hour” when Jesus spoke those words. Yes, the Spirit did know these things, for He never set aside any of the prerogatives of deity; His ministry did not necessitate that self-constraint. I Corinthians 2:10-11, speaking of God’s revelations to man, says, “But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.” Thus, God the Holy Spirit has always known these things and employs His omniscience to draw people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, Who said of the Spirit, “He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall shew it unto you” (John 16:14). Each believer’s salvation is an eternal testament to the truth of these words.
