Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
At the end of the Millennial Kingdom, Satan will be temporarily released from his confinement: “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea” (Revelation 20:7-8). Since everyone who entered into the Millennial Kingdom is a believer, we might wonder who is deceived. The answer is found in Isaiah 65:18-25, a passage that speaks of the birth of children during this period. If we take thirty years as the average age for a woman to have a child (it may well be younger), more than thirty generations will be born during this time. Thus, those born in the Millennium will far outnumber the original residents. Sadly, not all of these many newcomers will have a heartfelt desire to serve Jesus, and they will leap at the opportunity to rebel. As Jeremiah 17:9 warns, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” May we acknowledge this distressing truth, and may each of us learn to “keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).
