Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Perhaps the most astonishing of “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8), of “the riches of His glory” (Ephesians 3:16) is found in Romans 8:14-17. Here we are told that because all Christians “are the children of God’ (verse 16) we are also “heirs of God” (verse 17). To be an heir of God is a wondrous thing, for He gives only the best to His children. Thus, to inherit even a penny from God would be glorious. However, our inheritance is not limited, for verse 17 goes on to assure us that we are “joint-heirs with Christ.” To be an heir means to receive something; to be a joint-heir means to share equally in the inheritance; to be “joint-heirs with Christ” means to share equally with Him in all the goodnesses of eternity. It is no exaggeration to say that we are rich … and there is no end to these riches.
