Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we close our consideration of Revelation 10, let us continue to marvel at the transcendence of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Really, the surprise is not that He is blessedly different from us. No, the surprise is His immanence, His incarnation, His coming to us as our Redeemer, fully divine and fully human. Imagine the nauseating smell of a stink bomb – even the name makes us wrinkle our noses. Think of something even stronger – let us call it a stench bomb. The stench of our sin is noxious to our holy God. Our best is not acceptable to Him: “All of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6b). Even our attempts at worship fail: “Incense is an abomination to Me” (Isaiah 1:13b). Yet, Jesus came to us anyway. In fact, He came because of our sin, to pay the full price for all of our sin, to offer eternal salvation to anyone who trusts in Him. May each one of us be certain that our faith is solely and securely in this Savior, God the Son.
