Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
What will Jesus be doing today? We do not know what specific interventions and interactions He will perform in our lives, but we can be certain that He will continue to love us (Romans 5:8, 10; 8:1, 38-39). We also can be sure that He will work to change us for the better. This power in our lives is a necessary aspect of His love. Romans 8:29 reveals God’s actions in our lives: “For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” By that high and holy standard, there are more than a few things that need conforming and transforming! In the immediate context, as we have previously discussed, we need to grow in our love in response to God’s love. We also must mature in our faithfulness. Romans 8:17 reminds us that we are “heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.” This everlasting faithfulness of our Savior calls us to be faithful to Him in matters large and little. Let us love to be loyal to our Lord.
