Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Mark 13:19 continues Jesus’ teaching about the future: “For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.” Jesus here reminds us of the truth of divine creation of all things. Genesis 1 speaks of the creation of space, matter, energy, and time (verses 1-5). The rest of the chapter includes the creation of plant and animal life. Only when humans were created did God’s assessment of everything move from “good” (verses 4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25) to “very good” (verse 31). Our Savior God is indeed the Creator: “All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3). Colossians 1:16 adds, “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” One of the eternal songs of heaven includes the following: “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11). Our Lord Who “hast created all things” will one day redeem all things: “Because the creature [creation] itself shall also be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God” (Romans 8:21). Because of man’s sin, “we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now” (Romans 8:22). However, because our God loves what He has made, He will emancipate it forever when He makes “all things new” (Revelation 21:5).
