Carpenter Diem (Because Jesus Was a Carpenter and Is Now Preparing a Home for His People)
The resurrection of God the Son, Jesus Christ, is crucial to the Christian faith. In Luke 24:13-35, we read of the resurrected Savior walking the road to Emmaus. This specific geographical reference reminds us of the absolute accuracy of God’s Word in all areas. In verse 27, Jesus begins to teach from the Old Testament; He not only walked the talk but also talked the walk! This passage does not reveal the exact Scriptures Jesus employed to teach these journeying believers, but we do know that He fulfilled the entire Old Testament (Matthew 5:17,18). Fulfilled prophecy is one of the major reasons that we can be certain that our faith in Jesus is not misplaced. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Few of us spend much time in the book of Leviticus. However, Jesus is found here. For example, Leviticus 8:1-9 gives details about the consecration of Israel’s high priest. The New Testament makes it clear that Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of the Old Testament typology regarding the high priest. Hebrews 7:22-28 is one passage that enumerates the preeminence of Jesus’ priesthood. Hebrews 8:1 reminds us that our High Priest is now in the highest of places, the very throneroom of heaven. Moreover, the use of “once” in Hebrews 9:28 and 10:2, 10 indicates the finality of this priesthood: there can be no greater priest than Jesus Christ. As our High Priest, Jesus offered up not a lamb or goat or bullock; no, He offered up Himself – He sacrificed Himself to make atonement for our sins. A Savior this good deserves to be adored. A Savior this good deserves to be followed each day on our Emmaus Road.
