Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We return today to Psalm 110 as we consider the attractive nature of God. Jesus, the fulfillment of this Messianic Psalm is beautiful always and in all ways. Specifically, in verses 1-3, He is beautiful because He rules with beauty. New Testament quotations (Matthew 26:64; Romans 8:34; Ephesians 1:20; Hebrews 1:13) of this prophecy point us to Jesus’ rightful position of power. They teach us that Jesus reigns over the entire universe, including the angels. Often, people question the goodness of God and wonder why, if Jesus reigns, so many things in this life are bad. The short answer (and those of you who know me know also that I could give an interminably long answer) is that the fact of any good things at all proves that Jesus is reigning. Why are things bad in the first place? The only answer is the existence of man’s sin. Because of the undeniable existence of sin, everything should be as bad as bad can be. Instead, we see and enjoy much that is good and right. The very fact of even one good thing draws us to the sure knowledge that Jesus is reigning and that His reign is beautiful.
