Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 19:12b speaks of the fullness of the authority of God the Son, Jesus Christ: “And on His head were many crowns.” This picture of the potent plentitude of the power of our Potentate is particularly pertinent and proper. The “many crowns” (literally, diadems) are to be distinguished from those associated with Satan (Revelation 12:3) and with the Antichrist (Revelation 13:1). Their crowns are limited to “seven” and “ten,” respectively, indicating a temporary authority in time (less than seven years). Even during that Tribulation period, their rule is not absolute on earth, for some people are still being eternally saved through faith in Jesus. We should also note that His innumerable diadems are different from the crowns of reward that are to be graciously granted to believers (Revelation 2:10; 3:11; 4:4, 10); a different Greek word is used for the “crowns” of Jesus, a word reserved for royalty – here, for the “KING OF KINGS” (Revelation 19:16b). The “many crowns” thus symbolize His endless reign, a reign of faithfulness, truth, righteousness, justice, and knowledge.
