Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus never stops working in our lives, from the large things to the little things. In Zechariah 4:10, God speaks through the prophet to the people of Israel: “Who hath despised the day of small things?” The original Solomon’s Temple had been destroyed. After seventy years in captivity, the Jewish people returned to Jerusalem. Under the leadership of Zerubbabel, they built a new temple. However, some of them were saddened that this temple was smaller and less spectacular than the one that a few of them remembered. Yes, it was a smaller temple, but it was the same big God Who would be worshiped there. He thus reassured these believers that He did not despise their efforts. Likewise, we should not think that He does not concern Himself with the details of our lives. Tiny or titanic, our concerns are uppermost in His mind.
