Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

After the quick capture and confinement of the Antichrist and his false prophet in Revelation 19:19-20, we read of the end of the armies of earth: “And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him [Who] sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of His mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh” (verse 21). With simple words (for that is what is symbolized by the sword in Jesus’ mouth), the “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” (verse 16) defeats the rebels. The conflict will end as quickly as Jesus returns to Jerusalem – in a moment. In his great poem The Hollow Men, T.S. Eliot concludes, “This is how the world ends / Not with a bang but a whimper.” His assessment is very close to the Biblical truth. Satan’s greatest evil effort since the Cross of Christ will fail as utterly as his efforts failed there. The assembled power of man and Satan does not even get off a shot against Jesus and the armies of heaven. There is no bang, not even a whimper – just the sound of feasting birds.
