Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The unwavering evil of Satan and the demons (Revelation 9) necessitates that each Christian “put on the whole armour of God” (Ephesians 6:11); including “the helmet of salvation” (verse 17). Sly and subtle Satan will endeavor to cause discouragement in all areas of our lives. For most of us, work is an essential and time-consuming part of our weekly lives. Usually we spend at least a quarter of our time on the job, more if we work overtime or have to commute. Bosses can be demanding; fellow workers can be unhelpful; and customers can be critical. Certainly Satan will use others to make us feel that our labor is inadequate or unimportant. With “the helmet of salvation” firmly in place, we can remember the value of our work, for Colossians 3:23 tells us that “whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” If we take this Biblical approach to work, we will effectively combat Satan’s efforts to discourage us in this integral part of our lives.
