Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 19:14 says of Jesus, “And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clear.” Who are these soldiers in these heavenly “armies”? Angels are mentioned in Psalm 103:21, Psalm 148:2, and Luke 2:13 as being part of the hosts of heaven. Also, angels are specifically mentioned as accompanying Jesus at His return (for example, Matthew 13:41, 16:27, 24:30-31). The clothing, though, is identical to that mentioned in Revelation 19:8 and references believers in heaven. Revelation 17:14 confirms that these believers will be with Jesus when He returns at the end of the Tribulation: “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” Other references to the presence of believers with Jesus at the end include I Thessalonians 3:13, II Thessalonians 1:10, and Jude 14-15. The Biblical teaching, then, is that all of the inhabitants of heaven will be involved in supporting Jesus at His Second Coming. May we seek this blessed agreement even now.
