Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we saw yesterday from Colossians 2:9-10, Jesus fills our lives with His fullness, with His (certainly not our!) perfection. From Galatians 4:3-7, we find that Jesus fills us just in time. He came “bodily” (Colossians 2:9), fully human, “made of a woman, made under the law” in “the fulness of time” (verse 4). At the perfect time in history, in fulfillment of specific prophecy, Jesus came to us. Because he became fully human, He could be the substitute to take the punishment for our sins. Because He is fully God (Colossians 2:9) and thus perfect, He could be our perfect substitute “to redeem them that were under the law” (verse 5). In the poem “Journey of the Magi” by T.S. Eliot, the wisemen say, “We continued and arrived at evening, not a moment too soon.” Jesus is never a moment too soon, and it is never a moment too soon to turn to Him in faith and receive the fullness of His salvation. Note the explicit Trinitarian teaching in this passage: One God in Three Persons breaks into our lives at just the right time. Yes, Jesus our Savior fills us with His fullness just in time.
