Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The “new song” of Revelation 5:9 proclaims of Jesus, “Thou art worthy.” These words and those that follow are accompanied by “harps” (verse 8). The only other musical instrument mentioned in Revelation is the trumpet (8:2). I think of old friend Reverend Richard Mountfort and envision him in heaven playing his beloved trumpet! Other instruments are mentioned in the Old Testament as part of worship. Some denominations choose not to use any instrumentation in their services, and sometimes small churches such as ours do not have an instrumentalist available. We can still sing, of course. However, we all should agree that the use of musical instruments in worship services is Biblical and reflects the blessed creativity of our Savior God.
