Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The emphasis in the second half of the heavenly song of Revelation 15 is on God’s attribute of holiness: “Who shall not fear Thee, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? For Thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before Thee; for Thy judgments are made manifest” (verse 4). The holiness of our Savior God is absolute: not only is He completely separate from sin, He also has no inclination to sin and will never tempt us to sin. This central characteristic of God ensures that all of His other attributes will be used for good. For example, His omnipotence will never be employed as a raw display of superior might. Similarly, His justness, His fairness, cannot be corrupted (as so often happens in our legal proceedings). Likewise, His truth will not be used merely to win an argument. (I would, though, advise against arguing with God!) The holiness of Jesus should give us great confidence that He will not renege on any of His promises to us. Truly, we can trust Him to do what is right and good for us.
