Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 22:6 reminds us that this book not only is about Jesus but also is from Him: “And he [the angel] said unto me [John], ‘These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to shew unto His servants the things which must shortly be done.’” In the first century, “servants” (often slaves) were not treated with this solicitude. They were told what to do, with no concern for their concerns. Our Lord, though, wants us to do what is right and also explains why it is good for us. Because this message is directly from Jesus (1:1), it is “faithful [trustworthy] and true.” Revelation 19:9b states, “These are the true sayings of God,” indicating that all of them can be trusted. Revelation 21:5 echoes the assurance that we are hearing the words of God: “And He [Who] sat upon the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’ And He said unto me, ‘Write: for these words are true and faithful.’” It is logical that the words of our Savior God would match His perfect character, and He is “called Faithful and True” (Revelation 19:11). His kindness to us – “His servants” – extends to His precise and precious words of encouragement and exhortation.
