Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) delivers powerful comfort to God’s people. Revelation 14:13 says, “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, ‘Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth’: ‘Yea,’ saith the Spirit, ‘that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.’” The blessings of God are always multiple. Two specific blessings are mentioned here. First, we are promised eternal “rest.” This is not inactivity. Rather, it indicates that there will be no struggling, no suffering, no stress. We will be active in heaven, but we will not experience frustration nor fatigue. Second, we can be certain that our “works do follow” us. There is a twofold aspect to this promise: we will receive reward in heaven (for merely doing what is good for us!), and we will have the assurance of a lasting impact on those we have loved and helped. God’s goodness is on full display as He exhorts and encourages each believer.
