Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) reveals His eternality: “’I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending,’ saith the Lord, ‘[Who] is, and [Who] was, and [Who] is to come, the Almighty ‘” (1:8). Because Jesus is eternal, He is the same today as He always has been and always will be. Since I John 4:8 and 16 both assure us that “God is love,” we can be certain that the love of Jesus is not variable. This unchanging love was most powerfully demonstrated at the Cross. I John 4:9-10 emphatically states, “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten [unique] Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation [atoning sacrifice] for our sins.” Since Jesus does not change (Hebrews 13:8), we are loved at this moment with the same all-encompassing love that was demonstrated so clearly and absolutely at the Cross. The very same Jesus Who died there now loves to love you and me, and He will love to love us eternally.
