Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we studied yesterday from Revelation 4:9-11, one compelling reason to believe the promise of Revelation 22:5d that believers “shall reign for ever and ever is the eternal existence of God as evidenced by His role as Creator. The book of Revelation builds on that teaching in 10:6: “[The angel] sware by Him [Who] liveth for ever and ever, Who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer.” Thus, the One Who “created all things” (Revelation 4:11) is decreeing an end of this “time,” of this creation as we know it. Later, in Revelation 15:7, we read that “one of the four beasts [angels] gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, Who liveth for ever and ever.” The consistency of character that we find in our Savior God is exhibited here: He will deal with the effects of man’s sin upon His original Creation. Because He always has been, always is, and always will be the same, He will create a new heaven (universe) and new earth (Revelation 21:1). His eternal consistency means many things, including that we can trust His specific promise that “we shall reign for ever and ever.”
