Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The description of the heavenly city concludes in Revelation 22:4-5: “And they shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” The presence of “His name” on our “foreheads” is an astonishing evidence of our Savior God’s grace. We have previously studied that during the Tribulation people will be forced to take the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:16), either on the right hand or on the forehead. This marking is really a form of branding, a despicable aspect of the abhorrent practice of slavery. The placement of our Lord’s name “upon” our “foreheads” is completely different. It is not merely a mark: it is “His name,” signifying a personal relationship rather than ownership. Since “His name” symbolizes His character, its presence on us indicates that He pours out everything that He is into each one of us. All that is good becomes ours: we “inherit all things” (Revelation 21:7). That God would deign to place “His name” on rebellious sinners is truly an awesome act of great grace.
