Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) is the unfolding of the plans and personality of our Savior. A core characteristic of Christ is His love: He “loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood” (1:5). Because Jesus loves us “unto the end” (John 13:1), He both commends and corrects us. The first-century church at Thyatira was faithful and worked hard (Revelation 2:19), but they needed to “repent” (verse 22) from their interest in a false prophetess (verses 20-21). We must be wary of the newest “spiritual” fad. I have lived long enough to see movements and ideas ascend but then collapse due to false or weak doctrine, financial improprieties, and/or scandalous behavior. Often, people are drawn in by an intriguing new face, what is sometimes called “a cult of personality.” Let us be leery of following individuals who demand our allegiance and seek to manipulate us. These people will fail and fall, and we do not want to be collateral damage. Rather, our full allegiance must be to our Savior, Jesus Christ. He will never lead us astray, and He will never “leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).
